Areas of Focus:

  • through study and prayer to see the major themes that gradually unfold through   the Hebrew and Christian scriptures
     
  • the Bible can be described as “a text in travail”, 3 steps forward and 2               steps backward
     
  • we will attempt to connect the dots and to eliminate the irrelevant while zeroing in  on what matters
     
  • basic assumption is that the biblical text mirrors the nature of human              consciousness

Without going book by book through the bible, we will try to show how the prime ideas of scripture are already indicated in

  1. capsulated form at the beginning of Hebrew Scriptures.  From that early statement of the theme, we will proceed with something akin to a
     
  2. character or theme development through the middle part of the Bible.  By the end, especially in the Risen Christ and in Paul’s theology of the Risen Christ, we have a sort of
     
  3. crescendo, the full revelation of the One we can trust to be a non-violent and gracious God, who is inviting us into loving union.
