Wrapped in Love Prayer Shawl Ministry

Since our inception of this ministry in April, 2010, our members have:
  • Knitted and crocheted shawls and lap blankets for the ill and home bound of our parish as well as those who have lost loved ones.
  • We make white baby blankets which are given at the Expectant Parents masses in both May and October.
  • We have donated special baby articles for the newborns in our community hospitals.
  • Chemo caps, scarves and hats to Sloan Kettering Hospital for Christmas, 2011.

  • To date we have made a total of over 600 prayer garments.

  • The prayer shawl ministry made 26 prayer blankets for all the Sandy Hook Elementary School victim's families. They were hand delivered to Sister Mary Ellen of Saint Rose of Lima RC Church on Tuesday, February 5, 2013. Each blanket contained an Angel in one corner of  each blanket with the first name of each victim on the Angel and a footprint pin attached to the corner of each angel. Attached  to each blanket was a card containing special prayers. Sister Mary Ellen told us that all the families received numerous prayer shawls and gave them to other family members, but when she saw these blankets she believes the families would hold on to these blankets because of the Angel and name of the child. The visit was somber yet tranquil. Sister Mary Ellen continues to work tirelessly with the grieving families. You can feel the love and care of this community. Our ministry is joyful that we could do this for those families.
