121212 Concert for New York - Robinhood Foundation Grant

posted Feb 20, 2013, 3:16 PM by jgillen@stclaresi.com   [ updated Feb 20, 2013, 3:17 PM ]

As reported in the Staten Island Advance a few weeks ago, St. Clare’s will be the recipient of $50,000 from the Robinhood Foundation. This money was raised as part of the 121212 Concert for New York in December. Since the money has not be released to us we do not have the money to distribute at this time.

Once the donation is received it will be added to the donations received from our parishioners, friends, and unknown donors from around the country that have arrived since the storm. We expect to announce details of this program in our bulletin and on our website with ample time for applications to be received, reviewed, and assisted.

We thank everyone for their continued support and contributions.

NYC Rapid Repairs is a FREE program to help residential property owners affected by Hurricane Sandy make emergency repairs. These emergency repairs will allow residents to stay in their homes so that they can complete more permanent repairs and finishes. Emergency repairs include permanent or temporary restoration of heat, power and hot water, and other limited repairs to protect a home from further significant damage. A homeowner must first register for NYC Rapid Repairs. The City will then schedule an appointment for a qualified NYC Rapid Repairs Team to make certain repairs for all eligible homeowners.

2012-1126

After a three day break for Thanksgiving, the The Comfort Grill (TCG) at the Olympia Activities Center (1126 Olympia Boulevard between Greeley & Lincoln Avenues) reopened on Saturday.  The Comfort Grill (TCG) overseen by our parishioner Tom Sullivan and many volunteers provides good complimentary comfort food for the Residents, Volunteers & Recovery Workers. With Midland Beach bustling with post hurricane recovery work, they served nearly a thousand people!  Their crews of grillers, servers & do-gooders continue to be the backbone of the nearly-famous Staten Island food hub.

If you haven't been by TCG lately, they now have power & heat in the OAC and always welcome new & returning Volunteers. If you feel in need of "rekindling your Christmas Spirit", helping out our neighbors in need may be the best way to get that "Spirit of Giving" back. So many of our neighbors remain in dire need, many are still without power & heat.  Any good deeds are deeply appreciated, so no kind gesture goes unnoticed. Helping out for a couple of hours or dropping off some hot food is a big part of what this recovery effort is all about.

All Are Welcome so stop in and visit The Comfort Grill located at 1126 Olympia Boulevard between Greeley & Lincoln Avenues!
